What to do this weekend: “Golden Girls” cosplay and Migos star Offset

“Golden Girls” cosplay and drag queens

Thursday. Their AARP membership aside, the ladies of “Golden Girls” have had a Gen-X (and on down) revival in recent years as the cast’s comedic brilliance and the show’s unique premise have stood the test of time. But isn’t cosplay just for sci-fi nerds?

Nope. A “Golden Girls”-themed costume party is taking place, appropriately, at Grandma’s House craft brewery on Thursday, March 28, organized by the University of Colorado Denver assistant film prof Andy Scahill, who created the LGBTQ-themed Rainbow Cult movie series. Drag queens will play Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose, while the back patio will offer more than 20 vendors with homespun crafts and themed merchandise “for the Golden Girls fan in your life!” organizers wrote.

The event, which also features trivia, bingo, a cheesecake raffle and a costume contest, takes place 8-10 p.m. at 1710 S. Broadway in Denver, with doors at 7 p.m.. 21-and-up. Tickets: $15. or — John Wenzel

A WestFax anniversary toast

Friday and Saturday. Lakewood’s Casa Bonita restaurant is on the cusp of celebrating its 50th anniversary this month, but unless you’ve won the lottery to buy tickets, the closest you’ll probably get is an anniversary party next door.

WestFax Brewing Co. (6733 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood) is celebrating its own 8th birthday with two days’ worth of beer releases on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23. The free party includes live bluegrass music from Magoo the Band on Friday evening followed by a silent disco on Saturday.

Of note: Casa Bonita’s owners paid to level out the WestFax patio during the former’s $40 million renovation, so be sure to snag a picture there with the iconic pink tower in the background. Call 303-233-3742 or visit for more. — Tiney Ricciardi

Offset at the Fillmore

Wednesday. Following the tragic death of fellow Migos member Takeoff in late 2022, rapper Offset has forged his own path, releasing his second solo, studio-recorded album “Set It Off” in October and going hard on the collab-happy credits with guests such as Cardi B and Travis Scott. “There’s larger than life melodic trap that sounds tailor-made for mass airplay and streaming on tracks …” wrote of the Georgia native’s latest release.

Offset headlines the Fillmore Auditorium (1510 Clarkson St. in Denver) on Wednesday, March 27, as part of his 17-city tour, which continues through April. Tickets for the all-ages Denver show are $58.25 for general admission via — John Wenzel

Front Range Funny Fest

Through March 31. Denver’s charity-minded Front Range Funny Festival, which began March 21, continues this week at venues in Erie, Louisville, Superior and Lafayette through Saturday, March 23 — and the following weekend — with 10 packed shows at stops such as Gravity Brewing, The End and Romero’s K9 Club.

Top showcases this weekend include Gravity’s sets with Ron Ferguson, Cori Stewart and more (Friday); Portland, Ore., headliner Carlos Kareem Windham (Saturday at Romero’s) with comics Sunshine Holmes, Pat Treuer, Jordan Etzel, and Israel Avila; and Sunday’s “The Good Guy Auditions” (premise: who can convince you they’re a “good guy”? It’s not just guys),

Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Sister Carmen Community Center, a family-support nonprofit with thrift stores and food banks in East Boulder County. Tickets: single shows for $20, weekend passes for $40, and a full-fest pass for $60. — John Wenzel
