Three men arrested in Aurora condo shooting death of 24-year-old woman

Three men have been arrested on murder charges in the fatal shooting of a woman at an Aurora condominium complex, Aurora Police Department officials announced on Wednesday.

Cameron Mooty, 31, Stephan Cherry, 32, and Corey Allen, 26, were detained after speeding away in a truck from the condos in the 14600 block of East Second Avenue Friday afternoon. Police chased them and the truck got stuck in snow near the intersection of E-470 and Pena Boulevard, Aurora Police spokesman Joe Moylan said in a press release.

Police responding to reports of the shooting on Friday found Theresa Burke, 24, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Arapahoe County Coroner officials on Wednesday confirmed the cause of death was homicide.

When the three men got out of the stuck truck and ran, officers caught them and detained them. Mooty had sustained a gunshot wound, “but it was not during his contact with officers,” Moylan said.

Mooty was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Cherry and Allen were detained at the Aurora Jail on outstanding felony warrants and over the weekend were booked on second-degree murder charges. Mooty also will be booked on second-degree murder charges upon his release from the hospital, Moylan said.

Aurora homicide detectives searched the truck over the weekend and seized several firearms as evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
