One lane of westbound Interstate 76 reopens after tractor-trailer hits bridge

One lane of westbound Interstate 76 north of Commerce City has reopened after a tractor-trailer towing construction equipment hit the outer edge of the Dahlia Street bridge on Monday afternoon, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The crash was reported 2:35 p.m. Monday involving the trailer and multiple vehicles, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Eastbound I-76 reopened around 5 p.m. Monday, but the westbound highway remained closed Monday night to evaluate the damage to the bridge and clean up the truck, spilled oil and debris.

One lane of westbound I-76 is still closed for bridge inspection and maintenance and drivers should look for alternate routes and expect delays during peak morning and afternoon traffic, CDOT officials said Tuesday.

The lane should reopen within the next few days.

Northbound Dahlia Street over I-76 is closed while CDOT inspectors assess the damage and crews complete repairs, according to a news release.
