Deputy U.S. Marshals from Colorado flew to Canada this week to extradite a fugitive suspect back to the United States, officials announced Friday.
Joel Rioux, 44, was in the custody of the Alberta Sheriffs Branch awaiting extradition on homicide charges when Marshals arrived to take him back to Boulder County, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service Denver.
Marshals turned Rioux over to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and he was booked into the Boulder County jail Thursday, according to inmate records.
In addition to homicide charges, Rioux is also being held on suspicion of two misdemeanor and one felony “failed to appear” charges, according to jail records.
Rioux will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 11, according to Boulder court records.
