A 22-year-old Indiana woman died after apparently colliding with a tree at Loveland Ski Area on Friday afternoon, according to Clear Creek County officials.
Trina Pappas of Dyer, Indiana, died after apparently colliding with a tree on the Zig Zag ski trail at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Friday. Her identity was confirmed by the Clear Creek County Coroner’s Office.
Pappas was skiing downhill behind a male companion when the two became separated, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday.
The man noticed she didn’t make it down the hill and contacted Ski Patrol, who later found her unconscious near a tree.
Ski patrol and emergency responders started CPR, but her death was confirmed by Clear Creek Emergency Medical Services who responded to the scene.
There is no indication of foul play and no criminal investigation is underway, according to the sheriff’s office. Pappas traveled to Colorado from Indiana on a ski trip with her companion and her sister.
A GoFundMe for Pappas described her as “a beacon of kindness, love and joy in the lives of everyone she touched.”
She was an athlete who enjoyed playing softball, babysitting and spending time with friends and family members, according to the page.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and Paula Pappas; siblings Tristin, Tabitha and Ty Pappas; boyfriend Cris Ponce; and her dog, Russ.
