A 29-year-old woman was killed in a suspected domestic violence shooting outside an apartment building in the 1400 block of North Xenia Street shortly after midnight Friday, according to the Denver Police Department.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 12:29 a.m. and found a woman with a gunshot wound, according to the department.

The woman was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead, the department posted on X. She has not yet been identified.

Charles Dorsey, 39, was at the scene when officers arrived and later arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide related to domestic violence because investigators believe Dorsey was in a relationship with the woman who was killed, the department said in a news release.
