A woman was found dead by firefighters responding to a house fire near Watkins on Monday morning, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire crews responded to the 600 block of North Bersshine Street at 10:04 a.m., sheriff’s office spokesperson Ginger Delagdo said
Firefighters found one woman dead in the home while fighting the fire, the sheriff’s office posted on X.
Fire officials cannot comment whether the fire or woman’s death appear to be suspicious, said Caleb Connor, assistant fire chief with Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue.
Firefighters from six agencies; fire investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Arapahoe County investigators and crime scene investigators all responded to the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The fire was under control at about 11 a.m. and caused “significant damage” throughout the house but did not damage any neighboring homes, Connor said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the woman’s name and cause of death will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
