Authorities in CaƱon City arrested a Windsor police officer Monday on a series of domestic violence charges, including stalking, second-degree burglary and harassment.
Vladimir Zhizhin, an officer with the Windsor Police Department for less than a year, has been placed on administrative leave as the case is investigated. Windsor police provided no details about what they believe happened but did say in a press release that the alleged incident occurred late last year in CaƱon City while Zhizhin was off duty.
Zhizhin, 44, is being held at the Weld County Jail in Greeley. The release did not say where the officer was arrested but his case will be handled by Colorado’s 11th Judicial District, which covers CaƱon City and Fremont County.
The Windsor Police Department became aware of allegations against the officer on Feb. 20 and notified the CaƱon City Police Department and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the release states.
The stalking and burglary charges are felonies while the harassment charge is a misdemeanor.
Interim Windsor Police Chief Aaron Lopez said in a statement that his department “takes integrity, accountability, and transparency very seriously.ā
