Student, woman identified as victims in double homicide in CU Colorado Springs dorm room

One of the two victims in an early Friday morning double shooting at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was a student, Colorado Springs police announced Sunday.

Samuel Knopp, 24, a student at UCCS from Parker, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, from Pueblo, who was not a student, were the two people killed just before 6 a.m. Friday after the campus police department received a call about shots fired in a Crestone House dorm room, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department in a Sunday post on X.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has not determined the cause and manner of death, but police are investigating Knopp and Montgomery’s deaths as homicides.

Police said Friday they do not believe this was a murder-suicide.

Few details of the investigation have been released, but police Sunday said the investigation indicated “this is an isolated incident between parties that were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university.”

These are the third and fourth homicides in the city of Colorado Springs this year, doubling the city’s homicide count from the same time last year.
