A vehicle hit in a fatal collision that closed northbound Interstate 25 on Friday night was stopped for a flat tire, according to Broomfield police.
Two people died in the crash after a vehicle traveling northbound on I-25 struck a vehicle parked on the side of the road between 144th Avenue and Colo. 7, the Broomfield Police Department announced Monday afternoon.
One of the people who died was outside of the vehicle and the other was inside the vehicle when the crash occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to police. Both died at the scene.
Three others, including a young child, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
Northbound I-25 was closed for several hours Friday night and early Saturday after the crash.
The Broomfield Police Department Traffic Team is investigating the cause and contributing factors in the crash, according to the department.
The identities of the deceased will be released by the Broomfield and Adams County Coroner.
