A single-vehicle, tractor-trailer crash that shut down northbound lanes of U.S. 285 in the foothills of Jefferson County on Friday afternoon injured two people in the truck.
Initially, both north and southbound lanes were closed between Parmalee Gulch Road and Colorado 8, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The southbound lanes reopened in less than two hours, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced at 12:34 p.m. Friday. Northbound lanes partially reopened at about 6 p.m., the right lane remained closed.
The Colorado State Patrol was notified of the crash about 11 a.m., said Master Trooper Gary Cutler. The truck driver, a 40-year-old Antonito man, and a passenger, a 42-year-old woman, were both taken to a hospital. Their injuries are described as not life-threatening.
The semi-cab rolled and landed on its roof and down an embankment just off the highway.
The state patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Inter-Canyon Fire Department, West Metro Fire Rescue and Indian Hills Fire Department responded to the crash.
A hazardous materials crew contained a small fuel leak, Cutler said.
Drivers should expect long delays, alternate routes are advised and there is currently no time estimate on the reopening of northbound lanes.
