U.S. 285 in Jefferson County was closed in both directions for more than 14 hours after a fatal crash Tuesday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash occurred near Aspen Park in Jefferson County at 5 p.m., when a tractor-trailer driving southbound drove off the road and rolled onto its side, dumping a load of pipe and angle iron on top of five other vehicles, CSP officials said in a news release.
One person in a vehicle hit by the tractor-trailer’s load died at the scene.
The highway closed around 5 p.m. Tuesday between Parker Avenue and Blackfoot Road south of Aspen Park, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
As of 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, the highway was officially reopened in both directions, state patrol said on social media.
