The Avalanche’s quest to bolster its forward depth continued Tuesday with the team announcing a one-year deal with veteran forward Tomas Tatar.
The 32-year-old Slovak will add a scoring punch to Colorado. He tallied 20 goals and 28 assists for the Devils last season, and has scored at least 20 goals in seven of his 12 seasons in the NHL.
“Tomas has been a consistent, productive player throughout his NHL career,” Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland said in a news release. “He is a veteran winger who brings scoring depth to our middle six and can contribute at both ends of the ice. We are excited to have him under contract for this season.”
Originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round (60th overall pick) of the 2009 NHL entry draft, the 5-foot-10, 173-pound Tatar has recorded 455 points (211 goals and 244 assists) in 783 games.
The one thing missing from his resume is postseason success. Tatar has been on playoff teams seven times between stints with Detroit, Vegas, Montreal and New Jersey, including this past season with the Devils when he scored just one goal and logged a plus/minus of minus-7 over 12 games.
In his career, he has seven goals and six assists over 52 playoff games with a plus/minus of minus-14.
