Thornton officer hurt in two-vehicle crash with SUV carrying high school swimmers

A Thornton police officer suffered minor injuries Friday night in a two-vehicle crash with an SUV carrying students. The SUV driver and the students were uninjured, according to the State Patrol.

The crash happened about 8  p.m. Friday at the intersection of East 120th Avenue and Grant Street, according to the State Patrol. The officer was driving west on 120th when the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, who was heading east on 120th, made a left-turn attempt onto Grant, the State Patrol said.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Alamosa woman, was cited for careless driving causing injury.

The Chevrolet, which is owned by the Sargent School District in Monte Vista, had six students, members of the Sargent High School swim team, inside at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said.
