Evacuation order for 14-acre Fossil Beds fire in Teller County lifted

An evacuation order for a wildfire burning in Teller County has been downgraded to a pre-evacuation notice.

The Palmer Ridge subdivision is no longer under an evacuation order for the Fossil Beds fire on the east side of the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, the Teller County Sheriff’s office announced in a tweet. The closest major intersection is Manchester Drive and Lower Twin Rock Road (County Road 42).

The fire has spread to 14 acres and has closed the eastern side of the national monument to the public, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.

That subdivision remains under a pre-evacuation warning, joining the Twin Rock and Druid Hills subdivisions in that status.

“Be prepared to leave,” the sheriff’s office said. “If you are in danger, evacuate immediately. If you need extra time or help to evacuate, consider leaving now.”
