Aurora police arrest man in fatal shooting after he chased teens trying to break into his car

A teenage boy died overnight Thursday and another teen was hospitalized after a shooting in a northern Aurora subdivision that police say was prompted by an attempted car break-in.

Police said a 27-year-old man confronted two people dressed in all black who were attempting to break into his Hyundai Elantra after the car’s alarm went off about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 19400 block of East 59th Place. When the two people sped away in another vehicle — which Aurora police said was suspected of being stolen — the man, Orest Schur, followed them, police said in a news release.

The teens’ car crashed nearby, on East 58th Circle, and police said Schur, who was armed, shot both.

Aurora police said Thursday afternoon that they arrested Schur on preliminary charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

After the incident, one of the boys died of his wounds after being rushed to a hospital, police said. No other information about him was released.

Police said the other boy, who is 13 years old, ran to a relative’s home nearby and was taken to a hospital. That teen is expected to survive, the release says.

Police said they were still investigating the incident and asked anyone who may have information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).
