An SUV driven by a teenage girl crashed into a house in Highlands Ranch Friday night after leaving the scene of a “shots fired” call, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies were responding to a noise complaint in the 9000 block of Miners Place when they heard shots being fired from a large gathering of people in the area.

One of the deputies who heard the shots saw a white Mercedes SUV leave the scene at a high rate of speed, and another deputy attempted to stop the SUV.

The driver refused to comply, according to the news release, and the SUV entered a neighborhood a half mile from the original call. The deputy lost sight of it as it rounded a curve of Forrest Drive, and once the deputy himself rounded the curve, he saw that the SUV had crashed into a house in the 8600 block of Forrest Drive.

Three teen girls were in the SUV and were detained. The driver, 16, and one passenger, 17, had minor injuries, and the other passenger, 17, was uninjured, according to the news release.

The house was occupied when the SUV hit it, but no one inside was injured.

The driver was released to a parent pending potential charges of vehicular eluding, DUI, and reckless driving.

The girls were determined to not be involved in the original shots fired call on Miners Place, but that investigation is still ongoing.
