Man arrested after roommate killed in Jefferson County shooting

A man is in jail after Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies allege he shot and killed his roommate during an argument Saturday.

Deputies responded to a house the 4700 block of Parmalee Gulch Road at 3:40 p.m. Saturday after they received a 911 call from a man, identified Sunday on X as Bobby Knapp, 51, who said he was involved in a shooting, according to a Saturday night statement from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies took Knapp into custody and found a dead man with gunshot wounds inside the house, according to the Saturday night statement.

The sheriff’s office originally called the incident a “suspicious death,” but said Sunday they are investigating the death as a homicide.

Knapp was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and will be in court Monday morning at 10 a.m.

In a Sunday post on X, the sheriff’s office said Knapp and the man killed were roommates and had gotten into an argument before the shooting.

Northbound Parmalee Gulch Road was closed near Parmalee Gulch Park Saturday evening for the investigation, according to the statement.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
