A 57-year-old Aurora man died after falling into the South Platte River near Deckers and being swept downstream, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jorge Ramirez-Flores was celebrating the Fourth of July with family when he lost his balance while walking on rocks near the river and fell in, sheriff’s officials said in a post on X.
A family member tried to grab him, but Ramirez-Flores was quickly swept downstream. Passersby spotted his body two miles downstream at the Gaskill Bridge, pulled him out and tried to resuscitate him, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ramirez-Flores was unresponsive when he was pulled from the river and could not be resuscitated by the people who pulled him from the water or responding North Fork Fire Protection District crews.
