Suspect connected to Centennial shooting death arrested in Wyoming

The man who allegedly shot and killed a 73-year-old Centennial man in Lone Tree in early November has been taken into custody in Wyoming, police said Monday.

Lone Tree police identified 23-year-old James Matthew Neal as a suspect connected to the Nov. 4 shooting death of Michael Lohmeier. Before his arrest in Wyoming, he was last spotted Neal in Colorado Springs.

“I can confirm that James Matthew Neal was arrested by Wyoming State Troopers in Niobrara County, Wyoming, for another offense,” said Nate Jones, spokesperson for the Lone Tree Police Department, in an email to the Denver Post Monday. “He’s currently being held in Goshen County, Wyoming. That’s all the information we have for release at this time.”

Lohmeier was found dead in the 8500 block of South Yosemite Street in a 2009 Toyota Highlander on Nov. 4, police said. He died from a gunshot wound and his death was ruled a homicide, according to a Nov. 6 news release from the Lone Tree Police Department.

Niobrara County is about 280 miles away from Lone Tree. It is on Wyoming’s border with Nebraska and South Dakota.
