Commerce City police continue to look for a man who they say shot and critically injured a 15-year-old worker at Santiago’s Mexican Restaurant on Thursday afternoon — a shooting that stemmed from a dispute between a customer and the employee.
Officers were called to Santiago’s at 5230 E. 72nd Ave. just after 4 p.m. to find the teen employee with a gunshot wound. Police said he and a male customer got into an argument and they both began firing shots at each other.
The customer left Santiago’s before police arrived but the driver of the vehicle he was in later pulled over and dialed 911. He then fled on foot, police said. He is still at large though police say they know who he is. The female driver and two children who were passengers in the vehicle were uninjured and uninvolved in the shooting, authorities said.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident to determine the appropriate charges for either or both parties. They are asking to speak to anyone in the restaurant who might have witnessed the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 303-727-3901.
