Rockies spring training recap: Red-hot Ezequiel Tovar hits grand slam

On the mound: Right-hander Cal Quantrill, making his first Cactus League start in a Rockies uniform, allowed one run on two hits over two innings. The Reds’ Elly De La Cruz touched Quantrill for a one-out, solo homer. Quantrill threw 16 pitches, 12 for strikes. … Right-hander Karl Kaufmann pitched two scoreless innings, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out two. Kauffmann has a 2.08 ERA.

At the plate: Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, hitting leadoff, continued his splendid spring. Tovar launched a grand slam in the fourth and finished his day 2-for-2 with five RBIs. In five Cactus League games, he’s hitting .636 (7-for-11) with two doubles, one homer and seven RBIs. … Second baseman Brendan Rodgers hit 1-for-2, scored a run and drew one walk. Over his last four games, he’s gone 5-for-10.

Prospect watch:  Reliever Angel Chivilli has still not been scored on this spring after pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings on Saturday.
