The Rockies had the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft and they went with a big prospect with a big bat to boot.
Charlie Condon — a 6-foot-6, 216-pound outfielder and third baseman — put up monster numbers for Georgia last season, slashing .433/.556/1.009 with 37 homers and 78 RBIs in 60 games.

Here’s a look at what national analysts think of Colorado’s selection:
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter (Grade: A+): “Condon is the player from this draft class most likely to develop into an MVP winner, and he is going to have a lot of fun in Coors Field. The Rockies will always need pitching, regardless of whether they took an arm here, so might as well grab the potential superstar.”
CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson (Grade: A): “Hey, the Rockies will take getting the best player in the class (in our estimation) at No. 3. Condon raised his stock from second-tier collegiate to the top our board by commanding the zone and impacting the ball. He also played a better hot corner than expected.”
ESPN’s Dan Mullen (No grade given): “The No. 1 player on ESPN draft expert Kiley McDaniel’s board, this seems like an easy choice for Colorado at No. 3. A team that, despite playing at high altitude, is in desperate need of offensive upgrades gets a slugger who earned national player of the year honors by putting up incredible numbers in the nation’s toughest conference. And Condon’s polished game should have him aiming for the Coors Field fences in Colorado’s lineup sooner rather than later.”
The Sporting News’ Edward Sutelan (Grade: A): “The player with the most power in the draft heads to the thin air of the Rockies. This is going to be an exciting pairing. Condon is a massive slugger who has often earned comparisons to prime Kris Bryant. He’s no three-true-outcome player as he limits chase rates and walks at a high clip. Condon has impressive mobility and could be a solid corner outfielder in Coors Field. But this is all about the power in Colorado. That’s going to be exciting to all baseball fans.”
