Police in Aurora will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint, and drivers will be stopped and checked for signs of intoxication as part of an ongoing traffic enforcement program.
On Saturday night, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., a checkpoint will be set up at East Sixth Avenue and Chambers Road, police said in a news release. Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be contacted briefly by an officer.
“The checkpoint should cause only minor inconvenience to traffic along the targeted roadway, and highly visible signage will be posted leading into the checkpoint screening area,” the release said.
The traffic stops are part of the current DUI Checkpoint Colorado program, which will run through Labor Day Weekend.
“This is part of our continuing commitment to the statewide effort to combat drunk drivers and reduce alcohol related traffic accidents and fatalities,” police said.
The checkpoint program is funded by a National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) grant in partnership with the “Heat is On” campaign administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
