A Pueblo man died Tuesday after engaging in a shootout with police while barricaded inside a residence.
Around 1:16 p.m., police received calls about a man in the 2100 block of Aztec Drive firing what was described as an assault-style rifle, authorities said in a news release.
Officers attempted to communicate with the individual, who was not named. During these attempts, the suspect shot at officers, police said.
At least one officer returned fire, authorities said.
Officers finally entered the residence to find the man deceased. Police did not say how the man died.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, will be investigating the incident. All involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, per protocol.
