A man is dead after a shootout in a Pueblo fast food parking lot Wednesday night.

Six Pueblo police officers and one dispatcher were placed on administrative leave after the man was shot to death, police department spokesperson Franklyn Ortega said.

Officers responded to reports of a man with a weapon about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from police.

Officers found what they believed to be the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Popeyes restaurant in the 1500 block of U.S. 50, near the Pueblo County Club, according to the statement.

The man in the vehicle ignored police commands to show his hands and began shooting at officers, police said in the statement. This information is preliminary and has not been confirmed with camera footage.
