A Pueblo police officer fatally shot an armed man who pulled a gun while he was being arrested Wednesday, according to the Pueblo Police Department.
Officers responded to a call about animal cruelty in the 3000 block of Lake Avenue at 2 p.m., Pueblo Police Department officials said in a news release Wednesday night.
Officers spoke to a suspect and found he had an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court. When officers attempted to arrest him, the man pulled a gun from his pocket and an officer shot him in response, Pueblo police said in a news release.
Officers provided first aid and the man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and later pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the shooting.
The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, and the shooting will be investigated by the 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team and led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
