Denver police shoot suspect at Clement Park near Littleton

Denver police officers on Monday shot a suspect in a Jefferson County park after the individual allegedly fled from a felony warrant stop.

Police were called to South Lowell Boulevard and West Saratoga Avenue on reports of an armed individual with a felony warrant out for his arrest who may have been involved in another violent crime, Denver police Chief Ron Thomas said during an afternoon news conference.

The suspect, who was not named, jumped in a car and officers attempted to initiate a stop at South Pierce Street and West Bowles Avenue.

The individual then allegedly led police on a chase into Robert F. Clement Park. Thomas said he “appeared to have a weapon in hand.”

Officers used non-lethal force on the suspect, which proved unsuccessful, Thomas said. Multiple officers then shot the individual, the police chief said.

Authorities rendered aid and the suspect was transferred to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition, Thomas said. No officers were injured.

Officers found a weapon at the scene, he said.

The First Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team has launched an investigation into the shooting.
