A law enforcement investigation began Thursday after police in the Weld County town of La Salle shot and killed a 38-year-old man, deemed suspicious, in a vehicle near a dollar store, authorities said.
The shooting happened Wednesday evening after a person notified La Salle police of the vehicle near the store, a news release from Sgt. Kyle Peltz of the Greeley Police Department said. La Salle, population 2,359, is about 6 miles south of Greeley.
Police went to the Family Dollar store and encountered the man in the vehicle, Peltz said. “The male subject was shot by police.”
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No other information was offered.
The county coroner’s office identified the man Thursday afternoon as Juston Michael Reffel of Gilcrest. The coroner’s office said the shooting happened about 5 p.m. near the store, at 165 Second St.
A 19th Judicial District critical incident response team will lead an investigation of the shooting, Peltz said. Anybody with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Mike Prill at 970-350-9532.
