A judicial team investigation began early Tuesday after a fatal police shooting Monday night in Windsor where a 39-year-old man who fired a shotgun at officers was killed, according to police.
Windsor police officers responding to multiple calls about a domestic disturbance on Sunflower Drive in Windsor around 9:15 p.m. found a man “uncooperative and armed with a shotgun,” according to a news release issued by the Greeley Police Department. The calls had alerted Windsor police officers of “a suicidal and possibly intoxicated resident who was being argumentative and was armed with an unknown firearm,” Greeley police Sergeant Kyle Peltz said in the release.
The police found him “armed with a shotgun,” Peltz said. The man “fired three rounds and was shot by officers.”
He was transported to a hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead. No police officers or residents of the area were hurt. Weld County authorities have not identified the man.
A 19th Judicial District team is leading the investigation. No other information was released. Police on Tuesday did not respond immediately to queries.
