Drivers can expect intermittent night closures on Peña Boulevard near Denver International Airport throughout the week for repairs and construction, airport officials said Tuesday.
The right lane of Peña Boulevard heading to the airport will be closed between Tower Road and the RTD bridge from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday so construction crews can realign lanes that were moved for the E-470 Widening Project, according to a news release from the airport.
Construction crews will start a “slow rolling closure” on Peña Boulevard leaving the airport between Tower Road and East 56th Avenue at 1 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday so workers can replace a damaged overhead electronic message board sign.
The closure will last for less than 10 minutes and speeds will be “significantly reduced,” airport officials said Tuesday. Construction work will last from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday and 10 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
Peña Boulevard leaving the airport will also be closed once an hour between Jackson Gap Street between 11 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday so crews can transport and set bridge girders on E-470.
The rolling closures will last seven minutes.
Airport officials expect traffic impacts to and from DIA, and drivers should allow for more time or use public transportation.
