Two boys were shot and killed Sunday in Northglenn in a shootout after they trespassed in someone’s backyard, according to a Northglenn Police Department news release.

The boys died at a local hospital after officers found them in the backyard of a home in the 11600 block of Pearl Street, the news release said.

The names of the juveniles and their ages have not been released.

Northglenn police officers responded to a trespassing call around 2 p.m. The two males broke a fence in the backyard of a house, and shots were exchanged between the boys and a resident, the news release said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
