A semitrailer jackknifed on Interstate 70 in Arapahoe County on Wednesday afternoon, leading to a domino-effect multi-vehicle crash involving eight additional semitrailers and a dozen passenger vehicles.
The crash and winter storm conditions forced a shutdown of the highway from Airpark Road to the Kansas border, though no injuries were reported.
The crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Byers, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.
Blowing snow had created white-out conditions at the time of the incident, Cutler said. Troopers in the area reported zero visibility.
At least one truck is leaking gasoline and a hazardous materials team is working at the crash site. The Colorado State Patrol said in a tweet that it likely will take until Thursday morning to clear the crash.
This is a developing story and will be updated.Â
