Police in the San Luis Valley town of Monte Vista shot and killed an 18-year-old Tuesday after the teen jumped out of a window gripping two knives and ran at officers, swinging the blades at them, state and local authorities said.

Monte Vista police had been dispatched to conduct a welfare check Tuesday afternoon at the site and used a Taser to try to subdue the young man before shooting him, Colorado Bureau of Investigation officials said in a news release.

The 18-year-old has not been publicly identified.

The CBI will be looking into what happened as part of a state review.

Two members of the Monte Vista Police Department have been placed on leave pending the outcome of the review.

One police officer sustained minor injuries.
