Monopoly’s life-sized “Travel Edition” to launch from Denver this fall

A life-sized version of Monopoly is kicking off its “Travel Edition” tour from Denver this fall, marking its U.S. debut after a popular run in London. The escape room-like experience substitutes actual people for the Scottie dogs, tiny cars and thimbles industrialists that usually populate the board in the real estate fortune game, which was first introduced in 1935.

They roll dice and play aspects of the game while wandering through immersive rooms and activities. “You’ll be guided by your very own personified Monopoly token as you and your team solve … challenges on a giant Monopoly board,” producers wrote in a statement. “Successfully solving challenges will unlock your chance to buy property, charge rent, and break out of jail!”

And while you’re doing it, a full bar will be available. All shows will take place indoors at DCPA Off-Center at Broadway Park, 407 S. Broadway in Denver.

Tickets for the run — which is Oct. 22, 2024 through Jan. 5, 2025 and sponsored by Denver Center for the Performing Arts — are on sale for $38.25-$45 via denvercenter.org/tickets-events/monopoly. The good news? It’s limited to an hour-long experience, which runs counter to the time it often takes to play (seriously, just send me to jail already).

Public hours for the capitalist-fantasy experience are 4 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays; 2 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Fridays; 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sundays (closed on Mondays). Players 16 and under must accompanied by an adult.
