A former Loveland Police Department officer was arrested Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while on duty in late July.
Dylan Miller, 28, is accused of kidnapping, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, unlawful sexual conduct by a peace officer, sexual assault, official oppression and misconduct, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release.
Miller was fired from the department on Monday, Police Chief Tim Doran said at a news conference.
The girl reported the assault to police on Oct. 23, and Miller was placed on administrative leave when he reported for his next shift on Oct. 27. The sheriff’s office conducted the investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, Miller first contacted the girl and several other people during a traffic stop in late July. Several days later, the girl and another person were at a Loveland park after hours when Miller contacted them, told the other person to leave and made the girl walk with him to a secluded area, where he assaulted her.
“People who victimize children deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Doran said Monday. “Anyone who uses their badge to do so is a disgrace to this profession and should be rooted out.”
Miller was hired by the Loveland Police Department on May 20, 2022. He previously worked for the Durango Police Department from September 2020 to May 2022.
Doran and Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen praised the teenager for her courage in coming forward to report the assault.
“The respect I have at this moment for this young woman and her family to come forward and make this known is beyond measure,” Feyen said.
Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims, Feyen said.
“If you or someone you know has been abused by this individual, we want to talk to you. We want to hear your story. Please reach out to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office so we can investigate this. Your voice matters to us,” he said.
