Longmont police chase, shoot armed man along Colorado 119 after Circle K robbery

Longmont police chased and shot a man suspected in the armed robbery of a Circle K Monday night, authorities said Tuesday morning.

The man was taken to a hospital.  A second man and a female were taken into police custody, Longmont Public Safety Department officials said in a news release.

The shooting happened after the robbery reported at 9:51 p.m. at the Circle K in south Longmont. Police working with dispatchers found a suspect vehicle and tried to stop it, officials said. The police chased it onto the eastbound lanes of Colorado 119. Police deflated the tires on the vehicle and forced it off the road.

The man “exited the vehicle with a firearm,” the officials said in the release. “A Longmont officer fired and struck the suspect.”

The suspect “is expected to survive his injuries,” Longmont Public Safety spokesperson Robin Ericson said. Police officers weren’t injured. No injuries were reported at the Circle K.

A Weld County team is investigating the shooting and the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, the standard procedure. Weld County Sheriff officials asked that anybody who witnessed the robbery or the chase contact them at (970) 815-6144. No other information was released.
