An Aurora man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of child sex assault, and investigators suspect there may be more victims.
Leopoldo Zapata-Valdenegro, 64, was arrested on Sept. 21 on multiple counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, with a pattern of abuse, police said in a news release.
An investigation began on Sept. 23, 2021, when a young girl reported a sexual assault to a trusted adult. During the criminal investigation, police identified multiple children as victims, according to the release.
“Detectives believe there may be more children who were victimized…possibly going back ten years or more,” according to the release.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Adams County District Court on Oct. 17.
Anyone with information on the case, or who has information about victims who haven’t talked with investigators, is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 (STOP).
