Larimer County wildfire evacuations lifted near Carter Lake

A 20-acre wildfire in Larimer County forced the brief evacuation of fewer than 20 homes before it was extinguished Sunday.

The fire, named the Wild Wing fire, started near Wild Wing Drive off of County Roads 12 and 29 in southeast Larimer County, just east of Carter Lake, shortly before noon, according to Berthoud Fire Protection District.

Residents living on Wild Wing Drive were ordered to evacuate at about 12:42 p.m. Sunday. The evacuation area included homes in between east of County Road 29 and west Homer Road and north of County Road 12, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The evacuations were lifted at about 2 p.m. and residents were allowed to return to their homes. The fast-moving grass fire threatened multiple buildings but did not reach any, according to Berthoud Fire Protection District. The fire was “determined to be electrical in nature,” the district said in a statement.

The Berthoud Community Center at 248 Welch Ave. in Berthoud served as an evacuation center, according to the sheriff’s office.
