A 29-year-old man was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday night after he was caught by witnesses while trying to flee the scene, according to the Lakewood Police Department.
Juan Terriquez Rendon was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide while driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed into another vehicle near West Jewell Avenue and South Harlan Street, according to Lakewood police.
The driver of the other vehicle died after the crash and has not yet been identified.
Officers who responded to the crash were flagged down by “good Samaritans” who caught Rendon as he tried to run from the scene, Lakewood police posted on X.
“While we do not recommend this type of justice, we do appreciate the citizens who were there to help us,” Lakewood police said in a statement on X.
Body-worn camera footage shows an officer approaching a man flanked by two other people, one of whom tells the officer that the man was the driver of the truck and they had to tackle him because he tried to run twice.
