Police are investigating a fatal Tuesday night hit-and-run crash in Lakewood that killed an Edgewater man walking in the area.
Lakewood officers responded to reports of a car-vs.-pedestrian crash about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West 14th Avenue and Carr Street, according to a news release from the police department.
A car crashed into and killed 41-year-old Donald Jones at the intersection before fleeing the scene, police department spokesperson Lindsey Lee said. Paramedics transported Jones to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Investigators are still working to identify the vehicle and the driver, Lee said.
Witnesses to the crash described the suspect as a Black man with dreadlocks driving a silver or gold sedan, police said in an 11:22 a.m. update. The suspect was driving east on West 14th Avenue when he struck Jones.
Both directions of West 14th Avenue were closed west of Carr Street for several hours Wednesday morning for the investigation, police said. The intersection reopened to traffic about 4:30 a.m.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the crash to contact detectives at 303-987-7286 and reference case LK24-022150.
