All Hogback fire pre-evacuation warnings lifted around Lakewood, Morrison

A wildfire continued burning in Jefferson County along the hogback south of Interstate 70, but pre-evacuation warnings in multiple neighborhoods in Jefferson County and the western edge of Lakewood were lifted on Friday night.

Pre-evacuation notices were canceled for the Morrison area, east of Colorado 8 and south to U.S. 285, as well as for residents in the Solterra subdivision in Lakewood and the Red Rock Ranch neighborhood. Both are along Colorado 470.

The fire was 40 acres in size and had no containment as of about 9:20 p.m., according to a tweet by West Metro Fire. The wildfire was ignited by a power line brought down by the intense winds, officials said.

“Firefighters will be patrolling the hogback throughout the night,” West Metro Fire officials said on Twitter. “It’s expected to still be windy through midnight, which could cause some hot spots on the interior of the fire to flare up. Expect to see smoke, potentially into tomorrow. Crews will be mopping up this weekend.”

Red Rocks Amphitheatre postponed a concert for Dabin, an electronic music producer, because of the fire, according to a tweet. No rescheduled date has been set, and refunds are available at point of purchase.

The fire, which started on the west side of the hogback, moved southeast. It ran upslope and over the ridge top to the east side of the hogback.

The fire sparked Friday afternoon in windy weather and during a red flag warning on fire danger in the area.

Smoke was visible as firefighters from multiple area departments arrived at the scene. Colorado 93 was closed from I-70 to Morrison because of the fire.

Hiking trails along the hogback and in Mathews-Winter Park will be closed on Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.
