Eastbound I-70 reopens at Floyd Hill after sun glare closure

Eastbound Interstate 70 has reopened at Floyd Hill Monday morning after a brief closure under the Colorado State Patrol’s sun glare protocol.

With the end of daylight savings comes the beginning of Floyd Hill sun glare safety protocols during early morning commutes, the Colorado State Patrol announced Friday.

These early morning road closures are caused by the morning sun, the angle of Floyd Hill and the curve of the highway creating a blinding glare for eastbound drivers.

At 6:53 a.m., the state patrol announced on social media it was diverting eastbound I-70 traffic to US Highway 40. By 8:15 a.m., the interstate had reopened to traffic.

According to a Friday release from the Colorado Department of Transportation, these detours can be expected to last from sunrise to about 8:30 a.m. on average.
