A $9.2 million construction project to build two new Interstate 70 bridges across 32nd Avenue in Wheat Ridge is complete, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The 20-month project removed and replaced the eastbound and westbound bridges to improve public safety and support increased traffic on the highway corridor, according to the agency.
Motorists dealt with traffic shifts, narrowed lanes and reduced speeds throughout the project.
The bridge replacement project is part of CDOT’s 10-year plan to replace old bridges throughout the state and is the first of three bridge replacement projects to wrap up in the west Denver Metro area, state officials said in a news release. Bridge replacements at I-70 over Ward Road and I-70 over Harlan Street are ongoing.
