Three people — two adults and a child — were sent to the hospital Saturday morning after a fire in Jefferson County destroyed a Conifer home.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and Elk Creek Fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire at 12200 Styve Road in Conifer around 11:20 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
The house fire quickly spread to grass and trees around the Conifer home, and multiple explosions were heard, sheriff’s officials stated. Deputies believe the explosions were most likely related to propane.
“The home is still smoldering but appears to be a total loss,” sheriff’s officials said in an 11:33 a.m. update. “Occupants of the home have been transported to the hospital.”
Two other homes were temporarily evacuated for safety reasons, sheriff’s officials said, adding that the fire will likely smolder for several more hours.
Elk Creek Fire crews are working to contain the fire, which is about a 1/2 acre in size, sheriff’s officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
