A woman was shot dead in Denver on Friday night and the suspect led police on a high-speed chase with a child in the vehicle before being stopped and arrested. The child is safe.

At 8:15 p.m. officers responded to a shooting in the 4700 block of Durham Court, police said. The victim died at the scene, and the suspect fled in a vehicle with a child inside. Police described the shooting as a domestic-violence incident.

A witness pursued the suspect and alerted authorities that the vehicle was eastbound on Interstate 70.

Adams County deputies and the State Patrol deployed stop sticks, placed on the road to puncture tires, and brought the vehicle to a stop near Strasburg. The suspect, identified by Denver police as Clemente Flores-Hernandez, 43, was arrested.

Flores-Hernandez is being held on investigation of first-degree murder and kidnapping, police said.
