CIRT: Greeley police shoot, kill armed barricade suspect Monday morning

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a Monday morning barricade that concluded with Greeley police shooting and killing a 35-year-old suspect.

About 4:40 a.m. Monday, Greeley police responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of 46th Avenue Court in Greeley, according to a response team’s news release.

At the scene, officers saw a hole in the wall of a shared duplex and heard another gunshot coming from the residence. Police surrounded the residence and tried to call the suspect out of the home.

The suspect barricaded himself in the attached garage, refusing to exit the home, the release said. As a result, the Greeley SWAT team responded.

The suspect continued to shoot his firearm at officers from the garage.

Officers tried several methods to safely apprehend the suspect, including less lethal munitions and irritants, but attempts were unsuccessful, according to the release. At 9:30 a.m., police returned fire and fatally wounded the suspect

The Weld County Coroner’s Office will identify the suspect pending contact with the family.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call Weld Deputy Mathew Rosten at 970-400-2854.
