Editor’s note: The 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Sept. 8 that no charges will be filed against the officers involved in the shooting, identified as Sgt. Steve Fisher and Officer Chad Wegscheider. An investigation into the incident found the officers were justified in using deadly force, according to the district attorney’s office. Investigators found that because Anthony Carroll was shooting at officers from his garage and using deadly physical force, Fisher and Wegscheider had reasonable belief that they or others were in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a Monday morning barricade that concluded with Greeley police shooting and killing a 35-year-old suspect.

About 4:40 a.m. Monday, Greeley police responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of 46th Avenue Court in Greeley, according to a response team’s news release.

At the scene, officers saw a hole in the wall of a shared duplex and heard another gunshot coming from the residence. Police surrounded the residence and tried to call the suspect out of the home.

The suspect barricaded himself in the attached garage, refusing to exit the home, the release said. As a result, the Greeley SWAT team responded.

The suspect continued to shoot his firearm at officers from the garage.

Officers tried several methods to safely apprehend the suspect, including less lethal munitions and irritants, but attempts were unsuccessful, according to the release. At 9:30 a.m., police returned fire and fatally wounded the suspect

The Weld County Coroner’s Office will identify the suspect pending contact with the family.
