A man wanted in connection to a fire, with a suspicious origin, at a Golden townhome complex has turned himself in to authorities.
James Gambrell Jr., 48, surrendered to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at about 11 p.m. Friday, according to a Golden Police Department news release. Gambrell turned in an AR-15 rifle and a handgun to the sheriff’s office.
Early Friday morning, police and firefighters responded to the Table Mountain Townhomes complex, 17250 W. Colfax Ave., according to a news release.
A wall at a resident’s townhome was punched through, with a hole from an adjoining unit, and a gun with a tactical light was protruded through the opening, police said on Friday. As officers investigated the incident, a fire started in the residence where a suspect had punched through the wall.
Multiple fire agencies fought the blaze, which engulfed a multi-residential building.
Gambrell was identified as a person of interest and police issued a 911 LookOutAlert, emergency notifications by text, email or voice message for him. The alert was canceled when Gambrell turned himself in.
Gambrell was being held at the Jefferson County Jail on Saturday on investigation of attempted first-degree murder, arson and menacing a deadly weapon, according to court records.
