Suspect in fleeing truck injures Golden officer, escapes into Denver

A Golden police officer was injured Friday morning while trying to stop the driver of a fleeing truck, who rammed multiple police vehicles and eventually escaped into Denver.

Golden police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop the Ford F250 pickup in a Home Depot parking lot in Golden just after 8 a.m. Friday, the Golden Police Department said in a press release. The driver rammed into multiple law enforcement vehicles, struck a Golden police officer who was on foot and fled.

The officer was taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released, according to the department.

Police and sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle into Denver but abandoned the chase because of the driver’s “increasingly unsafe” driving actions, the department said. The vehicle was last seen near W. 10th Avenue and N. Perry Street. The white truck has damage to its driver-side door and the rear panel on the driver’s side.

Golden Police Sgt. Stephanie Sipes said the license plate on the vehicle was stolen and that investigators are still trying to determine if the vehicle itself was stolen, too.

The driver has not been identified, according to the department.
